At the beginning of the movie, two goons had kidnapped a lady from a bank they robbed, and were keeping her tied to a chair & gagged with a white handkerchief.

It was the first instance of an actual kidnapping scene, for me, I think.

Couple places, usually fitting with some scenario: Closet - getting tied up, gagged, and then tossed inside a closet so that you’re out of the way...usually while the place is being robbed. You try to mumble for help through the door, and then you manage to fiddle with the door enough to open it and...

Rope has a lot going for it...for looks, I like it better; just looping it around wherever it needs to go...wrists, ankles, arms, legs, or around a chair.

Tape requires less preparation, though, admittedly...one wrap; and then done. No fiddling with knots.

While I like the whole "scenario" of being tied & gagged in a classical sense; I can certainly see the appeal of just "going gagged", as it were.
