Either way. When we slept over, we were usually in socks or barefoot. When playing, or engaged in challenges or dares, we usually had our shoes or boots on.

When we played TUGs as kids, the arms weren't bound all that often, but when they were, we imitated what we saw on TV and in the movies, which was hands behind the back, and the arms tied around the torso, between the shoulders and the elbows.
