Hello there.

Whenever I try and delete numerous old Private Messages at once, a new window opens with the text:
The submitted form was invalid. Try submitting again.
Have other users encountered the same problem? And is there a way to fix it? Because manually deleting them is pretty time consuming.

I think Chad and Johnsnow are aware of this problem and that Chad is awaiting a "fix" from above.

On behalf of those of us who chat a great deal, I hope they find a solution quickly. Deleting PMs one at a time is onerously time-consuming.

This is indeed an issue with the current software and needs a fix from the phpBB developers.

Chadmc90 wrote already in one of the other forums:

This is actually a problem in the update. I can't fix this particular issue until phpBB devs release a hotfix. I will keep an eye out on the forums, but until then, if you need to delete a message, you will have to manually "view" each message and click the "delete" button on each.

For more info on current bugs/issues, visit https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtop ... &t=2536701

The new release candidates have a fix in place for this (3.2.10-RC1, 3.3.1-RC1), but I can understand chadmc90 wants to wait installing a new version until these releases are no longer 'release candidates', as they might introduce other issues.

I really hope it is fixed soon, there are days I spent more time trying to clear sent and received messages than I do using the site.

Not trying to be an ass, but why are you guys so determined to delete your private messages?

You guys know that when your inboxes reach full capacity, the oldest message gets deleted on it's own to make room for the newest one, right? My inbox has been full for almost two years now and I've never emptied it once.

I will be honest, I did not realise that thank you for sharing.

Another option would be to create folders, you can do this in the User Control Panel

I'm getting this message whenever I try and delete messages from the Outbox - I cannot even delete one at a time from there.

Should I be able to, or is this not allowed from there?

Thanks,
Rafey

Guys,

I can't just snap my fingers and make this fix go away. This is a php dev issue. When they release a new, stable version of the software, I will update when I can get time. Until then, as bondagefreak said, just let the system delete for you.

I didn't realise that the system would do that automatically until bondagefreak said about it. I am cool to do that

A quick search confirmed that this is a known bug in the forum software.

Impossible to fix? Maybe not.

https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtop ... 2536701#pm
Problem: Unable to delete or mark PMs in UCP folder view #
It is not possible to delete or mark PMs while in the UCP's folder view.

Solution:
Delete the PM while in the PM view and not the folder view.

or apply the following code changes:
Ticket: https://tracker.phpbb.com/browse/PHPBB3-16296
Pull Request: https://github.com/phpbb/phpbb/pull/5821/files
I don't know if you tried this. Perhaps this will help.

Cheers and thanks for running this site.

tarkin we could possibly apply the change, but I am not comfortable applying an unofficial change to the websites source code. I'm sure the phpBB devs will provide a fix sooner or later, so for now everyone should follow the suggestioned action for getting around this.
