An Education - Seventies Fever

Post by KP Presents »

Good lord, has it really been a year?

More than that actually, but – hi, it’s Cassie Craig here, nearly fifteen. I know it has been a while, but – well, a lot has been happening, and I guess I and the others will tell you all about it in due course.

So at some point, I will tell you about how I spent the weekend with Louise and Freddie, and how I ended up tied to a bed… Or how we spent a week with Cindy visiting… Or – well, there is time.

So what has happened Chez Craig? Well, I’m still at school, alongside my gang – but Jenny is now in the sixth form. She, Alicia, Cathy and Mary all did well in their GCSEs, and now she is preparing for her first set of exams.

We’ve also got a wedding coming up in a few weeks time – Angela Bowden and Eddie Holmes, now that she has her degree and all that. Alicia and Suzie, my BFF, are going to be the bridesmaids, and as tradition has it we are going to have the wedding at Holderness Manor – and Bobby will be my escort.

Bobby – I love him more and more each day, even after – well, let’s just say one day we experimented a little too much, and I will tell that tale.

At some point.

And the Twins? Well, they are now in Kindergarten, at the school Lisa’s mum is the head of – my old school.

And the old school of two particular girls – because one of the hazards of growing up is now I am in the same position Jenny was when I started at my school. Yes, my darling cousin Patricia and her friend Rachel, AKA the Tornado Twins, are now at my school, as is Freddie and Frank Cottrell.

And others – Louise and Fiona, for starters. I had at least explained the rules of the playground to them, as Jenny had to me – but I had done one very foolish thing.

“You said you’d let them sleepover with you, Pippa and Lisa,” Jenny said as we sat at the dinner table, “tomorrow night? After school?”

“Yes, yes, I know,” I said with a sigh, “but I got tricked into it. And by the time I said it – all I could do was get the moral support. But with Suzie out of town…”

“And the twins having moved?”

“And the twins having moved to another town, I just have to hope Pippa and Lisa can cope – but Brian Hampton and Eric Cottrell were also coming round with Bobby, so I guesses there would be strength in numbers.

“Well, Colin and I are going out,” Jenny said, “so you will be on your own.”

“No she won’t.”

We both looked round at our little brother and sister as they sat at the table, eating chips and fish fingers. June was like a little version of Mum, with blonde hair, wearing a blue smock over a long sleeved white top and blue leggings, while David was wearing a checked shirt and jeans.

“Yes, I know,” I said with a smile, “you’ll both be here as well.”

“We’ll be here too,” Mum said with a smile, “but we’ll leave you alone in the main rom as much as possible.”

I smiled at that thought – and then I remembered what was particularly special about tomorrow.

“Oh lord – Seventies Day? Whose brilliant idea was that?”

The school had decided, as a fund raising venture, that this particular Friday we could wear clothes from the seventies – for a donation. And, like fools, we had all agreed to take part.

Except, naturally, the sixth form were exempt…

So that’s why on the Friday morning, I got to my room from the shower and looked at what I had managed to put together from various charity shops. First up was a blue roll neck sweater, which I pulled on, and then a pair of natural (meaning very grey cream coloured) tights, before I put the dress on. It was a lighter shade of blue, with a V-shaped neckline, and came to just above my knees.

It also had a floral pattern fake waistcoat as part of the dress, and I put a white cardigan over that as well, before I sat on the bed and looked at the boots we had found. They were black leather, and came to just below my knee, a zip fastening up the inside, but it looked like my school shoes as well, with a short heel.

I put them on and then went down to find Jenny at the table, helping David and June with their breakfast. She was wearing a sweatshirt and jeans, the twins in their school uniform – but it was Mum who took me by surprise.

She was wearing a grey silk blouse and a long skirt, with black suede boots on her legs, but those boots had a stacked sole and heel, so it was like she was walking on wedges.

“She felt she had to join in,” Jenny said with a shrug of her shoulders. “Eat up – we’re setting off in a few minutes…”

“Your Aunt Jessica is going to pick you up,” Dad said as he let me and Jenny off at the school gates, and we walked in, her going to the common room as I met up with Pippa and Lisa.

“Looking good,” I said as I looked at both of them. Pippa was wearing a light blue roll neck sweater, her red hair held back by a blue hairband. The jumper had white and pink hoops on it, and the knee length brown suede boots she was wearing had a grey band on the foot. A peach coloured short skirt and white tights completed her outfit.

As for Lisa, she was also wearing black boots like mine, but in her case it was paired up with a long blue floral print skirt. She also had an orange jacket with blue cuffs on over a pink top with little flowers on it.

“I know – Mum found it for me,” she said with a smile as we heard laughter – and then we saw what the Tornados were wearing as they came through the gates.

Patty must have thought it was St Patrick’s Day – with her green tights and jumper under a short sleeved white angora top, a little floral band at the front. Her hair was in two pigtails, and her legs were in a pair of light brown leather boots, a blue denim skirt covering the parts that…

As for Rachel Rigg, she was smiling with her glasses on, a yellow wool pinafore dress over a long sleeved white blouse with pink flowers on it, blue tights and dark brown leather knee length boots.

“Well, we just need to get through today,” I said with a sigh as the bell went, and we made our way in – not knowing just what the night would bring, thanks to three scheming boys…

Welcome back Cassie!
I was waiting for you and the whole gang. ;)

I am a little confused. When is this story set? And will the previous one (Cassie's Special Party) be completed one day?

I'm going to delete that one, I just could not make it work. As to this one, we're jumping forward a little time, and you'll see what's happened to the others soon...
