A remedy for nightmares m/f

It was in the middle of the night. Suddenly, Arianna sat straight up in bed, and screamed, screamed, and screamed. She didn't calm down, until she felt her boyfriend hugging her tightly, and hear him whisper sweet nothings in her ear.
"Was it the same dream?" he asked, when she had calmed down a bit.
"Yes," she stuttered, "it was."
"I suppose there's only one thing to do; isn't there?" Cole pulled back the blanket, got out of bed, went over to the walk-in closet, opened the door and took out a canvas bag.
"Might as well use them all; don't you think?" he said. "That way you'd feel extra secure. But then, you'll have to get out of bed, for a couple of minutes."
Arianna, who was shivering and had wrapped her arms around her legs, and stared wide eyed straight ahead, only nodded, but pulled back her blanket and got to her feet.

Within minutes there were several straps, belts and cuffs attached to the frame of her bed, and he told her to lie down on her back, and spread her legs. He started the procedure by locking padded mittens to her balled fists and cuffing her ankles, before moving on to buckling a belt around waist and attaching cuffs around her wrists, and finishing by crossing two belts over her chest and pulling a third up between her legs, and attaching them to the waist-belt. Just to be on the safe side, he pulled on every strap and cuff, tightening them if needed. He blindfolded her, by pulling a pouch over her head, which was thin enough to allow her to breathe and hear, but still thick enough to prevent light from reaching her eyes.
"Better?" he asked, before turning out the light.
"Better!" she said, and within five minutes, she was fast asleep.

She didn't know where the nightmares came from, or when she had had the first one, she only knew she had them pretty much every night, and that being strapped to the bed was the only remedy that didn't make her drowsy and sluggish the next day, like pills had a tendency to.
Her parents had started putting straps, mittens and a hood on her in her early teens, soon after the nightmares had begun, and they all noticed that she slept much better and woke up more rested if she was unable to move.

It was only after having met, and moved in with Cole, that Arianna realized that she had become addicted to being strapped down at night. She had tried to sleep without them a couple of times, but it only resulted in her, at best, tossing and turning all night, but mostly her having the most horrific nightmares, which she couldn't (or wouldn't) remember, when asked about them.

The next morning, he released her from the bed, and she went to have a shower. When she got out of the bathroom, he was waiting for her holding a set of cuffs and a belt in his hands (as he always was), and he swiftly locked them around her wrists and ankles, before buckling the belt around her waist, and attaching the handcuffs to it.
Why her being cuffed during the day? Well, it was a deal they had made in the beginning: if she had a nightmare and had to be restrained in bed, she also had to be restrained the rest of the day. And as she had them almost every night, she was cuffed almost every day, too, and their friends had become so used to the sight, they didn't comment on it any longer. They even took her out for lunch or a cup of coffee.

Nice story - hoping it’s the start of a longer story - would like to hear more about Arianna being tied up during the day as well

Interesting start. Certainly sounds like a medical prescription I'd recommend to patients
