Im the opposite but with the same mentality. I love being the tier, but I dont really like to think of it as a dom-sub relationship. Im not really into super hardcore stuff

As a boy, I didn't much care. I loved the challenge of escaping, but was successful only about 40-45% of the time. But the challenge was the thing,

I also liked the challenge of tying my friends, so they couldn't get loose within the prescribed time limit of 20 minutes (unless they asked for an "extension" to try and get loose on their own. But 45 minutes was the cap. When it came to tying my friemds, some were quite good at getting loose, while others couldn't escape if their hands were tied in front of them, and they had a knife. (I was successful in keeping my friends tied around 60-65% of the time.)

We were kids. The youngest, 9, approaching 10, and the oldest, about 15 and a half. And the older ones knew enough, not to discourage the younger ones, and to that end, sometimes pretended we couldn't get loose, and often tied them, either poorly, so they would "beat the clock," or close together, even back to back, so they could pick each others knots loose.

Personally I’ve never liked the idea of being tied up myself. There’s no appeal to me personally, so I would much rather do the tying.

No question about it - being tied up, provided it's a female doing the (hopefully tight!) tying.
