High-Tech Science-Fiction and Magical Fantasy Restraints

Post by Sablesword »

What ideas do people have for other-worldly restraints in science fiction and fantasy stories?

To get the ball rolling:

o Metal cuffs with the inner surface highly polished and treated with an alchemical elixir. This makes the metal feel soft to the captive, and also prevents the captive from bruising or otherwise injuring herself if she struggles.

o Ropes treated with an alchemical elixir so that they don't chaff, and when knotted the knots are magically resistant to being untied by female hands.

o Magical or high-tech devices to 'lock' knots in rope. Even if the captive can reach the knots, she can't untie them without the 'key.'

o Anti-grav devices to keep the chains of ankle-hobbles from dragging on the ground.

o Cables that can expand or contract in length, and with ends that attach to cuffs via a magnetic, gravatronic, or other technobabble linking/locking mechanism.

o Gag disks that stick to the roof of the mouth and render the captive/victim unable to speak.

o Ball-gag balls that stay in the captive's mouth without needing any physical straps to hold in place.

o Robots that apply restraints and/or watch over the bound captives.

o 'Tee Pods' - bio-engineered creatures that wrap up their victims and then apply a psychically-enhanced tickling.

I’ve been toiling with a steampunk fantasy-esque series called “Queen’s Ransom” that utilizes enchanted ropes, manacles & even their version of duct tape; with the purpose of nullifying those that use magic (and because I’m a stickler for world building; it’s taking a while to get right).

On the sci-fi side of things, however…I had this idea for hovering, spherical pods called “flycatchers”.

They’re utilized by the dystopia’s law enforcement to catch criminals; “flycatchers” are just what most citizens call them.

Essentially, a section of the floating sphere opens, and the elastic, sticky interior shoots out; not unlike a frog’s tongue (hence the nickname).

The criminals are then yanked inside the hovering sphere (perfectly safe due to the cushioning aspect of the stretchy material), and then whisked away to a detention center.

@Z-13: Can you contribute some of your own ideas? Or even fantasy / sci fi ideas you've seen elsewhere?

Wristbands that you cannot remove and once activated(by another person), act as super strong magnets drawn towards each other if they are less then 4.5 feet apart. So once they turn on, you are either T-posing to avoid getting your wrists locked together, or you are locked until they get turned off.
I believe you would be a lot more comfortable in ropes

Variant 1: The distance the wristbands must be held apart to avoid being locked together may be set by the captor, possibly via a remote control.

Variant 2: "Spreader" or "repulsor" wrist- and ankle-bands. When switched on, the captive encounters resistance on trying to bring wrists or ankles to within 30 inches of each other, and cannot bring them closer than 15 inches at all.
