ThisVid confuses me; why have so much content locked behind the 'you're not friends sorry' barrier? It creates a situation where in order to see someone else's private content, you need to have private content yourself to make yourself 'worthy' and beneficial enough to be 'friends' with.

Obviously this isn't a slight against you my friend, but it mystifies me as a whole.

As far as p*rn sites go, they all function the same way. ThisVid is by far the most functional and easily accessible one, not to mention the one that caters best to all sexual orientations and that also hosts a very large array of non-porn videos. Also, it's free. The others aren't.

I accept all friend requests on there, but many will not. People generally upload their own or someone else's videos there, not to please others, but to gain access to other user's videos. Most will only accept friend requests from like-minded people who have interesting videos in their private libraries. They won't accept a friend request unless you ALSO have videos of the same genre to share. That's why the site is so "successful" and contains so much stuff. The desire to have access to others' personal libraries incites users to publish their own content or saved web videos; basically adding to the site's available content.

In short, the general gist of the site is "I'll only share the stuff I've found and saved over the years if I have something to gain from it".
If everything was public, there would be no incentive for users to "do their part" and post stuff. There would be a LOT less content. Trust me.

I have private videos myself, which serve as an incentive for others to accept my friend requests.

As is, the only thing the site has to do is manage certain copyright claims, moderate content and make profit off the annoying (but necessary) ads.

Ending my lurk just to chip in because I've got content on there and I've seen and received plenty of hostility around content being privated.

I've got content (both on and off of ThisVid) that I've paid for and otherwise wouldn't have access to anymore because the source is old and discontinued. Frankly I see it as a bit of a storage unit because my potato of a laptop can't store everything I would like it to. I'm not going to give other people completely free access to content I've commissioned or spent money on without something in return.

Send me a friend request, if we have similar interests or you've got content I'm interested in, then I'll accept. I'll admit I can be quite picky in that I rarely accept people who have one or two 5 second clips that I've seen a billion times, but it is what it is. But people forget it's not just videos - ThisVid has photo albums too, upload some good ones I can add to my wank bank and I'll happily friend you without video content.

The amount of times I've had to block people for abusing me in my inbox because I won't accept their requests is insane. I get it, it's frustrating. I've been declined many times, but that's just how it goes. Find content elsewhere or get over it.

Ah yes, stupid people on the internet. No lack of those haha.
I don't even read the messages I receive on there. It's just a video database for me, nothing else.

The workaround for users who have thinner skin or who tend to be adversely affected by abusive users is to use the "ignore" button instead of "declining" the friend invite. It's basically a decline that won't send said user a notification letting him know he's been declined.
