How did you start out with BDSM very initially?

I feel domination and submission is a bit overdepicted in mainstream media, compared to simple sensuality of being tied up or the aesthetics of seeing someone else be tied up. Which way are the people here leaning towards?

Now, yes, over the course of time, different desires mix into each other. But how did it all began? For instance, I probably did not care about domination or submission for the first 3-4 years of wanting to be tied up.

For me, desiring to be bound/tied-up/tied-down, has always been integral to who I am. It just felt and still feels good to be tied. I agree that the B in BDSM is the aspect of that microcosm that is the least depicted for its own sake and just for fun in modern media (at the expense of the others).

Like many, my interests in BDSM started as a kid watching cartoons involving characters getting captured and tied up. I was probably no older than four when I first started tying myself up (I have a vivid memory of doing this in the house we were in at the time). In fact, I’d absolutely say that watching TV shows wasn’t what caused my interest in bondage, but rather that’s just what I was naturally drawn to from a core perspective.

Unlike a lot of people in the kink community, I was never attracted to the dominant/submissive or sadomasochistic aspects of BDSM. Interesting, though, I’ve picked up a couple new/secondary kinks in the past couple years (I tried some new things, and my body was like, “yep, I guess I’m into this now). So, I’m certainly game for trying out other new types of play at some point. Who know, I might surprise myself yet again.

I saw cartoon characters, then real actors tied up on TV and wondered what it would be like.

Penny was an ideal damsel, smart and courageous but also vulnerable.

This is how I started as well. Turns out being tied up felt really good to me.
Just your average crossdressing damsel in distress...

“ Watching someone else tied up felt good”

Like many, as a kid I would see many a damsel in movies or tv shows get bound and gagged. But rather than a lot of your “I wonder what that feels like” thoughts, I was more just enamoured by the look of it, and the idea of the woman being helpless. I just knew that I wanted to see more of it, and potentially try it on a girl myself one day.

When I think about it, my first BDSM fantasies were so silly and ridiculous that they could only have been invented by a little boy
So it is absolutely out of the question that it could have any erotic background.
To this day, by the way, I am mostly asexual and my tie-up-games do not involve sex.

And yes, scenes of restraint, kidnapping, imprisonment and torture have always excited me a lot in cartoons and adventure films. The ones I liked the most were the ones where scouts tied up and imprisoned other non-scout kids or adult people.

The first time I was tied up by someone else was at the age of seven, maybe eight. A much older friend, a teenage girl, tied me up with her skipping rope. At my own request, of course! And she tied me up so well that I couldn't free myself for real!

Around the age of thirteen I started tying myself up and gagging myself. I pretended to be Batman (or Bruce Wayne), a U.S. Marshall, or an undercover police officer caught by the bad guys. I also dressed in my baseball uniform and pretended to be a Major League pitcher kidnapped before the game. My fantasies also included being a cowboy captured by rustlers...stuff like that. What lay behind it were all the films, tv shows, Hardy Boys' books, and comics where the hero got bound and gagged and I was just fascinated by that.

Before that I liked to bind and gag my GI Joe dolls up and create elaborate scenarios around that.

At thirteen I realized I was gay and that figured in it all too.

I remembering noticing any time i saw someone tied up in a movie or show growing up just loving it and feeling awkward if I was watching it with anyone in the room. One day I decided to tape my mouth and looked in the mirror and then it all just clicked for me lol
I'll tie you if you tie me :D

For me, it started when I was a kid watching cartoons and movies in which the good guys got themselves tied up and gagged, often in perilous situations. Scenes like the kidnapping of Aladdin or Prince Philip from Sleeping Beauty and the captain from Madagascar (still a personal favourite) gave me the hots even back then. Initially, it felt a bit weird since I was too young to understand what a fetish meant or how something that was portrayed as villainous gave me such a specific please to watch. Then, I just experimented a bit with self bondage. Mainly with duct tape and cloths, gagging myself and imagining what it would feel like to be tied.up or to have a man tied up for me to tease as part of a game. And around twelve I begun writing bondage fiction about men and boys I met daily. That's when I started realising that I was gay and just matched the bondage thing to my sexuality.

For me it was watching tv growing up and seeing scenes with people bound and gagged. This made me want to try BDSM and my interest only grew from there.

As an adolescent, I found a book named "The Velvet Underground" hidden in my parents' book area. It was kind of a review of unusual sex practices and had some explicit chapters on bondage and BDSM, topics I was almost instantly intrigued and fascinated by. The book was published in the early sixties and was the inspiration for the band of the same name formed by Lou reed. It was surprising to me how just reading about such practices caused a wellspring of interest and fixation on things I had no knowledge of previously. It also coupled my new interests to sexual arousal as there were many puberty hormones working overtime.

Like most people I think, watching TV and films and seeing people getting tied up, I thought it looked fun and slightly embarrassing (in a good way). ;)
