LARGER TEXT SIZE FOR STORIES: YAY OR NAY? (POLL!)

Post polls here.

WHAT'S YOUR OPINION ON THE SLIGHTLY LARGER TEXT FONT I NORMALLY USE?

IT'S GREAT! PUTS LESS STRAIN ON THE EYES AND MAKES THE READING PROCESS EASIER.

IT DOESN'T CHANGE ANYTHING FOR ME. THE NORMAL FONT IS LARGE ENOUGH.

Aaaaaaaaand there I go feeing old. Thanks! 😂

I never really thought about it, but seeing the difference side by side does show how easier it is on the eyes. And I suppose less eye strain leaves more time to think about other things 😉

bondagefreak thanks for tagging me in on this.

Honestly, I've never even thought about text size. But yes, that larger size is definitely easier. Might have to rethink my posting style.

However....

As mentioned here by another member, I too tend towards larger chapters. Would posting a whole ton of words in a larger font size turn potential readers away?
A wall of words, or the same long chapter but now easier to read?

wataru14 and myself both write chapters of similar lengths.
Mine normally vary between the 1500-3000 word mark.

Since posting that comment, wataru14 has changed his mind and is now also using a larger font.
To see what that looks like, I'd invite you to check this link: https://tugstories.com/viewtopic.php?p=105322#p105322
The above-shown chapter contains 2300 words (moderately long).

Hope this helps.

I find the larger text actually makes a story seem more approachable and less daunting. It makes the post longer but means you have fewer words on the screen at any one time. It actually makes it feel less monolithic.

As for the argument of using the browser zoom function, my engineer brain just feels that is an inelegant solution. It's the classic sledge hammer to crack a nut. I only want to enlarge the text of the story not everything else. There's a reason why font size is a configurable setting!
A pup is for life but especially for bondage so get out the sleepsack and muzzle.

Don't miss out on the final chapter of Lovingly Zipped Up (M/M)

Hm, an individual option for the user would be ideal, if they could change the settings themselves to make things bigger or smaller if they want to. Would also make the site more accessible. You have the option to change the whole theme of the site, isn't there a way to get an option to change things like font size too? I believe the forum software this site runs on has an extension that does something like that, but maybe that's a whole different discussion altogether.

What do you think, Johnsnow & chadmc90 ?

I would have to edit the CSS file for each style on the board to support a text size increase. It would be better to use your browsers Zoom feature if you need to increase the font size.

There is an extension for larger font (and bold) for phpBB.

https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/exte ... arge_font/

Never used it, so I have no clue if it works well or not.
Thanks for reading. Feel free to comment.

It would seem that, if it as easy as doing what @bondagefreak does ( as explained above ), then getting chadmc90 or Johnsnow to go through all the styles is somewhat unnecessary. I do tend to agree with the above remark about monolithic slabs of text as well.

Hey Sir,

The way it’s been done before is fine, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

That being said, whatever is deemed most iPhone friendly by those “in the know” gets my vote.

Well, it looks like the masses have spoken.
Special thanks to the 50+ users who took the time to vote on this.

I've seen quite a few authors take note of it and adopt the larger font these past few weeks.
Glad this suggestion is receiving positive feedback from the forum readership.

I hadn't seen this poll until now, but the results seem interesting. Like others have said, seeing the font sizes side by side does highlight the reduced strain that goes with the larger font.

I think that I might experiment with using this for my story writing on here from now on, and I might apply it retroactively to my current works if it's received as well this poll would indicate. Thanks bondagefreak and everyone else who has contributed to this discussion!
