A Memory m/m

Post by Xtc »

The moderators on the previous board used to get questions about how much elaboration should be allowed in “true” stories and where stories based on fact should be posted. I made the story “Under the Embankment” from a simple memory. I shall post that memory here and the “Elaborated” version under “True Stories For Everyone”.

A MEMORY

I was returning home by train from a venture with the Scout Troop with which I used to help out while at college. The railway line was raised on an embankment as it took a right-hand curve. Looking down, I saw what was obviously a Scout camp.

Even the short glimpse that I got, as the train passed relatively slowly for some reason, allowed me to see the flag-pole and a few of the young campers. One of them was a skinny kid in long black shorts. His hands seemed to have been tied behind him and he had been tethered to a heavy rope such as a tug o’war rope or the sort of rope that we used in those days (This was in the mid seventies, by the way.) for constructing aerial runways (zip-wires) in pioneering.

The prisoner seemed to be smiling! He could see one of the other scouts being escorted towards him. The recently captured lad seemed to be of mixed race and had quite an impressive Afro. He was wearing combats but was bare-chested and seemed to be offering no resistance to his captors, who were guiding him by holding him firmly by the arms out from the woods towards what had obviously been nominated as the prison.

Before I could take anything else in, the campsite disappeared from view as the train moved on.

A cute sotory that left me (and probably you) wondering what happened to those boys after your train passed by; were they soon release? Where they tortured? Did they stayed tied up for longer? Did other kids joined them? The possibilities are endless!

I recal on the previous forum a topic called Snapshots where users would post true experienced too short to make for a full story. It has been inactive for a while but who knows, perhaps it returns here

Why not post it as a suggestion?

I thought I should post a link to the "elaborated" version here. It is the one called "Under the Embankment". http://www.tugstories.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=601
