A little bit of context:
I'm in the second year of my architectural studies in Lyon- so was 21, 22 in march - and we have an exchange program with UQUAM, I jump on the occasion and spend 10 months there, between late summer of '98 and early summer of '99... This "incident" must have taken place around April or May . Not sure of that at all, was my worst "auto-pilot mode" year and I was quite far gone myself, although it's not related at all with the incident.
Anyway, here's the article AND it's integral home-made translation from heroic Quebec french to the vile masters' english ( just kiddin'

And for those of us who live in a rational word where measuring units come in multiples of ten, "first suspect" is 1.80 m for 70 kilos, "second suspect" is 1.70 m and weights 60 kg. ( both quite light, me likes

And now what it inspired me:

You'll agree with me it's not that traumatic, plus it's same age on same age, so...
I have to confess that I have some doubts about this really happening ( maybe it's those strangely attractive "thugs" ) but we all know stupider crimes get commited everyday so why not ?
On a personal note, there's everything I like in it: home invasion ( how more symbolic can you get, I do think most home invaders do it for the thrill rather than for money, at least in that precise case you'll agree the outcome isn't worth a few years behind bars ) , a good boyfight and rough tying with whatever they found on site. All that's missing is a gag. Either they gagged him but he felt somehow humiliated and didn't report - or journalist did a reporting job as bad as his writing style, it's poor isn't it ? - or they threatened him enough so he kept it shut...
What's more to say ?
Original article provided the street name, so I checked it on Google Earth and Streetview and so the house on top is the real house. In a typical canadian environmental psychology analysis - learned that there and liked it a lot, E.C. Hall and all ... ) you could say that house has "rob me " written on it: it's on a corner lot but whith three heavily planted sides AND it faces only threes...
I had great fun trying to picture the two invaders from the "portrait robot" - no idea how you call that - and bringing back to life my beloved 90s look: Fila sneaks, oversize everything, messy hair... Having no idea what that kid looked like I went for my usual trick: drawing myself younger and with a straight nose and wider eyes. Also made him blonde - not that many in Quebec I recall - to contrast more with his attackers... Which is also one of my visual tricks: adding splashing colors to enlighten a bit some "dark" subjects.
And it's all hand drawn with 6B crayons, then scaned, assembeld and colorized on Photoshop.
Whatever you think of it, feel free to tell me. I love feedback and happily answer to everyone.
