Danny slumped back in his office chair, the usually stoic marines hands trembling. What the hell was happening to him? A memory he'd seemingly managed to bury in the depths of his troubled mind, had now continued to resurface in the past several weeks.
Kate, now with her clothes back on, laid her delicate hand gently on her boyfriends broad shoulder, trying to reassure him any way she could.
"I'll get you a glass of water babe." She said softly.
"I think I need something stronger..." Danny sighed, leaning forward to place his elbows on the work desk, still trembling.
"I don't think that's a good idea babe, like I said, I'll get you water." Kate repeated, in a firm, but still soft and caring tone.
"I..." Danny looked up to object, but the stern look his blonde partner gave him quickly disarmed the combat veteran. "Yeah you're right."
"Of course I am, I'm your lady" Katie joked, trying to get her man to crack a smile as she kissed him on the cheek...
Alas, his lips barely moved.
Concerned, Katie did as she said and retrieved a clear plastic cup from the large water tank in the corner of the room, presenting it to her boyfriend who downed the entire thing in one gulp.

Pulling up a chair next to him, Katie took Danny's still-quaking hand in hers, and slowly but surely, the once-proud Marine allowed his stoic facade to break, he began to slowly sink into his girlfriend's warm embrace. She stroked the short black hair on his head with tenderness and affection, like a lullaby without lyrics.
"Danny, I can't pretend to understand what you've been through, but I can't watch you destroy yourself like this any longer." Kate spoke softly.

As he did so, several sudden knocks on the door broke the tension between the American couple, who promptly sat up straight next to each other, Kate joining in on Danny's illusion that everything was ok.

"Hey guys, it's Emma!" That familiar, sweet outback accent resounded from behind the door.
The couple looked at each other, and Danny nodded to his girlfriend, they both knew Em was trustworthy.
Getting up to open the door, Kate gave him a quick kiss on the forehead. "I'm not mad at you." She whispered.
"I know babe." He smiled slightly.
Emma soon entered the room with a look of kind concern on her lovely tanned face, giving Katie a hug first... "Hey sis is everything ok? You guys left so suddenly..."
Unsure of what to say, Katie laughed awkwardly. "Yeah we um... You know we just, needed a break from all the excitement, it's been a long day running the club, and uh..."
"Babe, it's ok." Danny piped up, reassuring his partner with a nod that she needn't put on an act for Emma.
Kate sighed, and the pretty brunette took her hands. "Afghanistan?" Emma asked quietly.
"Afghanistan." Kate struggled to maintain her composure "I just want to help, I-"
"I know, let me try and talk to him?" Em offered, giving her American friend a reassuring hug.
"Sure, you can try. I love him to death but he's so goddamn stubborn."
With that, Emma crossed the room and pulled up a chair. Danny, ever the gentleman, stood up to receive her, and the warm country girl hugged him like an older brother. Then, as Katie watched, the pair sat down and began to speak with each other quietly, so quiet she couldn't hear a word.
She hated not knowing what was going on, but Kate figured that if there was a chance Emma was able to help, she would have to accept being on the outside of the situation. Without realising, the gorgeous blonde began to pace back and forth impatiently across the office floor while Emma kept whispering something to the strong yet vulnerable Latino man... And as she watched with concern, he suddenly broke down into tears.
Danny never cried.
What the hell was Emma saying to him?!
"Baby?!" Kate's protective instincts kicked in and she rushed forward, kneeling down to hug her boyfriend, she'd never seen him like this before...
As the once unbreakable Marine sniffed back tears, Emma laid a hand on both his back, and Kate's shoulder. "Just promise me you'll try ok?" She said softly.
Danny, sniffing back tears, nodded slowly, before embracing Kate so tightly she thought he'd squeeze the life right out of her. "I'm... I'm gonna get help Kate, I'll go see someone, someone professional." He slowly composed himself, letting her cup his stubbled cheeks in her soft hands.
Kate breathed a heavy sigh of relief.
"I'm so glad to hear it sweetheart, I'll be here for you all the way..." She kissed him gently, and he reciprocated, burying his head in her shoulder. Nobody had ever seen Danny so helpless.
Kate turned to Emma, who despite the smile on her face, also had tears forming in her eyelids.
"Thank you..." Kate whispered, and the two friends took each other by the hand. The blonde beauty didn't know what Emma had said to break down Danny's defenses, but she was grateful all the same.
After ten minutes or so, the trio were finally able to compose themselves, and athough Kate made it clear they didn't have to, Danny smiled warmly and chose to rejoin their friends. The night was still young after all!
On the way back upstairs, Kate walked alongside Em, her curiosity growing worse by the minute...
"Babes, what the hell did you say to him?! I've been trying to get through to him for so long!" Kate whispered.
Emma just smiled softly "He lives to help other people Kate, he saved me after all... it took some convincing, but I just told him, from personal experience...
Eventually you gotta accept that you're the one that needs saving for a change, and that's ok."
